What is FIRST® LEGO® League?

FIRST® LEGO® League is a program designed to foster interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) among children aged 4-16.

  • Discover: 4-6 years

  • Explore: 6-9 years

  • Challenge: 10-16 years

Over 8-10 exciting weeks, children and youth experience hands-on approaches to STEM. They explore real-life challenges, devise innovative solutions, and:

  • Design and program a LEGO® robot to tackle challenges (except Discover, where they build models).

  • Research a self-selected issue where adults don't have the answers.

  • Showcase their work at a tournament (celebration for Discover), meeting other teams working on the same theme.

THE NEWTON CONCEPT

Newton is active STEM education led by enthusiastic and professionally-skilled Newton Teachers. The education takes place in Newton Rooms: specialised STEM rooms that are established and owned locally, and create a shared resource for the schools in a municipality.

A Newton Room offers education within science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The teaching plans of Newton Rooms are called Newton modules. The curriculum-based teaching is varied and focuses on learning through practical activities.
